In order to succeed in life, an individual needs to maintain a balance between academic and communication skills. While it is important to know the solution to a problem, being able to express the same to other people holds equal weightage. As this realization dawned on people, they joined their nearest English coaching classes, but half of them couldn’t improve. Linguistic experts at inlingua New Delhi, a language learning institute, expressed that the root cause is a common program for everyone.
Each individual has a different understanding of English before joining an institute. Someone can speak in a broken manner, someone suffers from weak grammar, while some others have a fair understanding of the language, but want to polish their skills. In addition to this, learning capabilities and grasping power of 30 students in a batch (for instance) cannot be similar.
Keeping this in mind, inlingua New Delhi pioneered General English Program (GEP), a customized language learning program. Under this, the institute guides an individual about their current fluency along with the most suitable learning batch. The size of the batch is limited to 12 students for effective individual attention as well as understanding.
Ms Anushree, an instructor at the institute added, “When a student wants to enroll for GEP, a test is conducted to check his/her prior knowledge of English. Based on the candidate’s test score, they are assigned a level ranging from basic to native proficiency. A batch constitutes of students of the same level.”
Due to students of equal knowledge quotient in one batch, common issues like hesitation in asking questions or expressing answers out loud are easily resolved. The fear of ‘people would laugh at me’ is eliminated from the equation. This streamlines the learning process for every individual. Furthermore, it becomes easier for the instructor to decide and maintain a flow of teaching. In this way, comprehensive learning in all the spheres of English, i.e., Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening can be achieved.
With the resources and manpower available today, customization is not a luxury, but it is mandatory. Institutes must concentrate on the expansion of such courses for flexible learning of every individual. Considering the increasing demand of English fluency amidst professionals like engineers and MBA’s, this development will have a direct impact on their corporate personality.
