Walter Sarnoi Oupathana, a professional boxer, a certified paramedic, and a polyglot, was born in Monterey Park, California to a Thai father and a Laotian mother. He was raised by his mother and a Mexican family in Mexico, who taught him Spanish, making him fluent in five languages. Walter is a man of many talents, and his love for sports and helping others has shaped his life.
At the age of twelve, Walter began learning boxing from the Eddie Heredia Boxing Club. As he grew older, his love for the sport only intensified. He attended Northern Michigan University, where he boxed for the (USOEC) United States Olympic Education Center team, and this only strengthened his love for sports.
Walter’s passion for helping people led him to become a certified paramedic, where he could put his skills to use in serving the community. He worked as a translator for Telecast, helping people who did not speak English communicate with medical professionals. His multilingual abilities also helped him connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Walter’s amateur boxing career began in 1999, and he quickly rose to the top, earning a silver medal at the US U19 national championship. In 2005, he earned the silver medal at the golden gloves tournament, further establishing himself as a top contender. His dedication and commitment to the sport paid off when he began his professional boxing career in 2008.
As a professional boxer, Walter has fought in 29 games, with a record of 25 wins and only 4 losses, with 16 wins by knockout. In October 2018, he fulfilled his dream by defeating Luis Lugo to win the green belt in Mexico. Walter’s passion for boxing has not waned, and he is focused on achieving even more success in the future.
